The API classification division of the GL (Gear Lubricant) classes for gear oils indicates their load capacity. Due to good pressure and shear stability, GL4 / GL5 oils combine the application of synchronized manual transmissions (GL4) and hypoid gears (GL5) with offset. This combination of both classes enables outstanding wear protection for hypoid gears together with very good shifting properties of fully synchronized transmissions. In addition, the material compatibility of non-ferrous metals in particular is not affected by this combination.
